Notting Hill Carnival

One more year the celebration that make London feel like in the Caribbean is here, the Notting Hill Carnival: dance, music, food…, are you ready for some days of amusement?

This festival is celebrated in the district of Notting Hill since 1966. It is originally typical from the Caribbean community and it started as a tribute to its culture and traditions. The carnival, celebrated on Sunday 26th and Monday 27th of August, is a party for all ages, but the celebration that takes place on Sunday is more appropriate for the younger ones.

Last year around two million people attended. This fact means this is the second biggest carnival in the world, just after the carnival of Rio de Janeiro. If you visit the carnival of Notting Hill, you will find parades, music performances of different styles such as reggae, salsa, soca and calypso. The typical food of the Caribbean countries is also there, for example the delicious jerk chicken. The colours are also characteristic. The dresses are always colourful and hand-made.

Notting Hill Carnival is a festival that symbolises the characteristic multiculturalism of London. Apart from the celebration of the carnival, you can also find other parties organised around the city in different night locals of the city.
