Horse Guards

Horse Guards was built in the 18th century according to plans by William Kent. The main building and the wings on either side form a parade ground where the Changing of the Guard takes place in winter The central building, crowned with a clock tower, has three arches leading into the immense Horse Guards Parade ground. The Horse Guards acts as the official entrance to Buckingham Palace. The Horse Guards Parade is where the annual Trooping the Colour ceremony, to celebrate the sovereign’s official birthday, and the Beating Retreat are held.
