National Gallery

Located on the north side of Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery is London’s most important art museums and is one of the most well-known across the globe. The beginnings of the gallery can be traced all the way back to 1824 when the British state bought 38 pictures from the private collection of John Julius Angerstein. From that moment on, the gallery continue to grow and develop quickly and now currently houses more than 2,300 paintings. The National Gallery’s collection currently contains works by Rembrandt, Tiziano, Velázquez, Van Gogh and Michelangelo.
