Old Vic Theatre

Old Vic Theatre

The Old Vic is a theatre which can be found to the south-west of Waterloo station. Founded in 1818, it became formally known as the Royal Victoria Hall at the end of the 19th century. In 1914, the Old Vic Theatre in London started off by putting on a series of plays by William Shakespeare but years later, in 1940, the theatre was damaged in air raids during the Second World War. Re-opening its doors once more in 1951, it is now one of London’s most interesting theatres. Kevin Spacey was appointed as new artistic director of the Old Vic Theatre Company in 2003.
