London Chinese community is preparing a great festival to welcome the Chinese New Year on February 10th. This event is the largest celebration outside Asia.
Chinese New Year date is different every year. It may be celebrated between the end of January and the beginning of February, depending on the moon calendar. This millennial calendar is also represented by the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac. This year 2019 begins the Year of the Pig.
The chosen place to celebrate the Chines New Year is the West End district. Hundreds of Chinese, Londoners and tourists come to Chinatown to enjoy the colourful show.
A great parade with large floats, dragon dances and fireworks has been organized in Trafalgar Square. The streets are decorated with lanterns and good luck charms, while the Asian restaurants in Soho will offer special menus throughout the week.
Different activities, markets and workshops are also organized to commemorate the Chinese culture and its traditions. The festive atmosphere is guaranteed for all audiences.
